My Productive Summer: New Novel and Art Revelations

It has been a quietly productive summer in the studio . I finally completed revisions on my new novel The Garden of Certhia, which was a great personal milestone and frees me up to tackle my next writing project called Scattered Ghosts. Naturally, I haven’t been neglecting my drawing table, and I have posted some recent works below.

Little Fin is a miniature cross-hatched in ink on a nice piece of heavy weight watercolour paper.

Lookout was done using acrylic paint in thin watercolour-like washes. The character is reminiscent of Irridis from my novels The Lost Machine and Necessary Monsters.

Flower is a watercolour on Fabriano paper. As I commented on social media, I find the conflation of monsters and flowers intriguing.

I hope you enjoy this little peek at my recent output. All of these pieces are available for sale in my webshop.

  1. These are terrific. I cant get enough. I just snagged a copy of your books Tailor of Echoes and Magpie’s Ladder. As soon as I finish Everville im going to take a Barker break and read these. Thank you again for the beautigul sketch. I framed it and stuck it up on my wall next to all my other goodies relating to your work. Hope you are doing great Richard! -Alex Parent
