For I Would Ride with You Upon the Wind Artwork

October has finally arrived and I have been in the studio working on a number of new pieces for upcoming shows and book projects. My most recent work is called For I Would Ride with You Upon the Wind. The piece is now available in an online show presented by Inverarity Gallery called “Monochrome: Goddess.” You can check out the amazing selection of works here.

A little bit about the piece. For I Would Ride with You Upon the Wind is an acrylic ink drawing executed on 140lb Arches watercolour paper (16”x 21”). The style of the piece is high contrast, drawn in ink with a brush and then modelled using a wash of half-tone ink. The title is a line from a poem by W. B. Yeats called “When You are Old.”

Work when I will and idle when I will!

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,

For I would ride with you upon the wind,

Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,

And dance upon the mountains like a flame.

Theme of the drawing is the transition from summer to winter and the promise of spring. The apparition of the owl goddess looks back over the summer that was and promises that warmer days will come again. This work reflects my fascination with owls—I sometimes hear them in the pine trees at the front of my house—and the decay as part of the process of rebirth.

I hope you enjoy this piece. Please follow the link and check out all the other amazing works in the show! If you are interested in other works of mine, you can always visit my online shop.
