The Assembly

art for sale, collaboration, dip pen, Drawings, ink, ink drawing, new artwork, Painting, Works for Sale

The Assembly is a collaborative piece I did with American artist Joe MacGown. Joe prepared the board and started the drawing in ink. Earlier this year, I finished the piece, adding imagery to the top and bottom. I enjoyed working on this so much, I’m determined to do more work in ink on panel in the future. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy checking out this fun project. The Assembly is available for sale through my Big Cartel shop.

Fresh Poison

Drawings, ink, Stippling
Fresh Poison, 2021, Staedtler Pigment Liner on Fabriano Bristol Vellum, 12 x 9 inches

Here’s a drawing I finished toward the end of 2021. The title was taken from a song by Hozier. You might have heard it. The phrase struck me as quite apt in this age of misinformation, menace and, frankly, misery. Anyhow, it ain’t all bad and this drawing was intended to be fun, or at least a little bit tongue cheek, so I hope it makes you smile.

3 Windows

Cross Hatching, ink, Natural History, Process, Technique, Work in Progress, Works for Sale

One might be forgiven for thinking this piece a surrealist response to Aubrey Beardsley’s illustration, The Examination of the Herald from Lysistrata, but it is in fact a meditation on vision (see previous posts). I hope you have enjoyed watching this process. This work is available for purchase. Please message me with any questions.

Three Windows

Drawings, Process, Work in Progress

I started working on this new piece today on a block of 140lb Arches hotpress. Tomorrow I’ll start the real work of rendering the image using diluted inks to model the forms. As I go along, I’ll post some progress shots here on the blog. Although I did many works with this technique in the past, its been a few months, so I’m looking forward to it.

Pollen, 2019, ink on paper, 12″ x 9″

Pollen is a new drawing (personal work) that I finished towards the end of January. It was done using .13 & .18 Rotring Rapidograph pens. The image below is a quick iPhone shot of a new work in progress called Hearts Divided. I’m hoping to get it done in the next few weeks, working on it between other things. The piece is 17″ x 14,” ink on archival quality illustration board.

On the writing front, I’m in the middle of a full revision of my latest novel The Tailor of Echoes. My goal is to have it completed by the end of March.

Symphonist 5

Drawings, Process, Silverpoint

Symphonist_5_web

Symphonist No.5 is a silverpoint miniature (4″x3″). It’s one of an ongoing series. Silverpoint lends itself beautifully to miniature work due to the precision you can get with the silver stylus. Over time, this drawing will darken as the particles of silver trapped by the ground begin to tarnish.
