Magpies in October Country

It’s October at last, my favorite month of the year. I have just added a small number of signed copies of Magpie’s Ladder to my webstore. The constant reader will remember that Magpie’s Ladder is my illustrated short story collection published by PS Publishing earlier this year. Get yours now!

Also in celebration of October, for this month only, every order from my webstore comes with a free sketch on a blank greeting card. Wait, what? Yes, go buy something and get yours.

That’s it for now. Now, go out, smash a pumpkin, walk in the woods, or burn some leaves before before fucking winter comes howling in and ruins everything!

Pollen

Pollen, 2019, ink on paper, 12″ x 9″

Pollen is a new drawing (personal work) that I finished towards the end of January. It was done using .13 & .18 Rotring Rapidograph pens. The image below is a quick iPhone shot of a new work in progress called Hearts Divided. I’m hoping to get it done in the next few weeks, working on it between other things. The piece is 17″ x 14,” ink on archival quality illustration board.

On the writing front, I’m in the middle of a full revision of my latest novel The Tailor of Echoes. My goal is to have it completed by the end of March.

Darkness

This is a newly completed silverpoint drawing called Darkness. The under drawing was done in 2016, and it was intended to be the third in a series of three (Flowers of Wisdom and Ptah, also shown), but I ran out of time. I finally found some time to render Darkness this week. If you look closely at this scan, you can see the parts of the drawing that have not yet tarnished. The other two sold long ago, so unfortunately they will never hang as a grouping (unless the same collector buys it, whomever they are!) At least here, you can see them as I originally intended. I hope you enjoy them.

Antipodes Project

Hot off the drawing table, a new ink drawing for the Antipodes Project originally started by artist Ben Tolman. Visit Joe MacGown’s blog for a good background on the project. I really enjoy creating these intensely packed drawings.

I should also mention that my drawing Hypnos is on display this weekend at Copro Gallery as part of the Underworld show. Contact the gallery for information.

Night Flowers, 2017, ink on paper, 10″ x 8″

Fish Scale was done as a personal piece, Night Flowers was a commission. Fish Scale may be an alien, walking a lonely shore on his first day on earth, or maybe he’s a creature that coalesced out of the landscape. Night Flowers stands before her mist shrouded woods. Is she barring entry, or is she here to guide you to a magic realm? I’ll let you come up with your own answers to these questions.

Nocturnalogic Redux

nocturnalogicLast summer I spent some time photographing things in my garden with a macro lens. Some of the pictures were put on a blog called Nocturnalogic, which I have since discontinued. I have salvaged the images and added them to a gallery as part of this blog. Simply mouse over “Gallery” in the header and then click on “Nocturnalogic” when it appears. Nature is integral to my work and taking these images are a way of looking closer. I hope you like them.

On another note, I have been compressing my web presence somewhat in recent days. Like untended plants, these blogs, sites, and social media platforms can grow leggy and pale. My Etsy site was closed as part of this process and it is my intent to use Big Cartel as my sole online shop. At the moment you can find prints, but I’ll be gradually introducing some selected originals and maybe even a book or two.
