Oneiric Natural History

One of the joys of the year coming to a close is thinking about what  will come in the next year. This is a time when I make a lot of lists; possible names of new drawings, ideas for images, books I want to read and things to research. Right now I am thinking of... Continue Reading →

2015 Price-List

I have produced a PDF price-list of selected unframed works created in 2015. These are works that I was compelled to create, not for formal exhibition or specific projects but simply for the sheer joy/ challenge of doing so. If you check my blog or FB page every now and then, some of the images... Continue Reading →

Walking Backwards: Nightlight

I remember doing Nightlight at a time when I was searching for a new approach to ink drawing. This technique of building up layers of cross hatched ink is one that I now use regularly. With Nightlight and another drawing called 10 Cent Dream I worked out a lot of the technical challenges. Richard

Dawn Botanist – detail

Walking Backwards

I've decided to start an irregular category on this blog called Walking Backwards. It's like a Throwback Thursday thing but it will appear as the mood suits. Walking Backwards will feature works, dug from my groaning hard-drive,  which I created in the past but haven't posted in a while. How far back I go will... Continue Reading →

Bug Things Coming

Along with a couple fairly involved ink drawings, I also have several paintings on the go. Everything is in various states, from OMFG why did I start this thing? to hey this is working. So, those of you who paint will know the piece above (put through a render on my "tin type" app) only... Continue Reading →

Aviator

This watercolour is a study for a future oil painting. I wanted to give the figure an avian quality, hence the placement of the eye. The whole piece hinges on that pitiless eye! I think it's also quite funny. I have a series of paintings in mind featuring monsters in remote outdoor settings. I plan... Continue Reading →
