Panspermia

Well, March was busier than expected and as a result I didn't have a chance to do any "work in progress" shots on this drawing. If you are unfamiliar with the meaning of panspermia you can read about it here. Obviously, I have taken some artistic license. The weird hand is a biographical reference. Many... Continue Reading →

Panspermia

Panspermia is a new piece I am working on. It will be a pointillism drawing when it is finished. What you are seeing here (or not seeing depending on your viewing device) is the graphite under-drawing. I'll be posting "in progress" shots on this blog as I work on the rendering. The same drawing with... Continue Reading →

The Mapmaker of Hull

This image is my most recent work. I am re-posting two other works below that were completed in late 2014, and part of the same cycle. Inquire about the availability of these works

Strangewood (Florestranha)

I had a nice time working on this painting last summer, so it is rewarding to see it in its finished form. The cover design looks great. I believe it comes out next month (March). The book also includes b/w interior illustrations.

A is for Alien

I just noticed that PS Publishing in the UK has listed Caitlin R. Kiernan's A is for Alien in their Forthcoming Books section. The cover design incorporates one of my drawings. - Richard.

Audubon’s Hare

I came across this image while poking around on the Morgan Library and Museum website. It's a beautiful sketch by Audubon. In the notes I discovered that Audubon had written a few lines in graphite on the back of the paper. I don't know the circumstances that would have enabled Audubon to work at such... Last Summer

Last summer, my friend Steve Venright, and a car load of his wonderful family, came through for a visit. I've known Steve since we were teenagers (gasp). I just found this photo, which I had quite forgotten about, in my camera. It's a good one don't you think? Besides being an amazing poet, Steve is... Continue Reading →

Dear Love, An Animated Short

Fellow London artist Sarah Legault's animated film Dear Love is now available on her Etsy site. When I received mine, I found an actual book from the film enclosed in the DVD case! This film is visually beautiful as well as genuinely moving. I hope you'll check it out. - Richard.
